From Nnewi to Bayelsa: One corps member’s mission to uplift and empower.
Motivated by the poor learning conditions in the school, Brown Ebubechukwu undertook the renovation as his Personal Community Development Service (CDS) project under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The extensive renovation included re-roofing the four classroom blocks, installing PVC ceilings, fixing nine new doors and 24 windows, and completely repainting both the classrooms and the administrative office.

Remarkably, the project’s success was made possible through the generous support of notable sons of Nnewi. The Chief Executive Officer of Obiex Finance, Mr. Ikechukwu Okeke, served as the principal sponsor, while Chief Ikenna Molokwu (Kwaratex) and Hon. Dr. Nonso Okafor of Reapfold Properties Limited also made significant contributions.
Their support highlights Nnewi’s enduring spirit of community development and national impact, extending even beyond its borders.
In addition to the renovation, Brown Ebubechukwu initiated several other impactful programs, including
- Free eye check-ups with medication for NYSC officials in Bayelsa
- Distribution of exercise books to 200 pupils
- Sack and soilless farming training for women in Swali, with free seedlings
- Soap and Izal production training, with free distribution to participants
- A two-day free medical outreach for the Swali community
With these laudable efforts, Brown Ebubechukwu stands a strong chance of being considered for the prestigious NYSC Presidential Honour Award, an honour reserved for corps members who deliver exceptional service to their host communities.
Indeed, it is inspiring to see Nnewi producing individuals who, through national service, bring honour and pride to their roots.
