The 17th edition of the Headies Awards, held on April 27, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, marked a triumphant return to its homeland after two years abroad. Themed “Back to Base,” the event celebrated the vibrancy and evolution of Nigerian music, honoring artists who have made significant contributions to the industry.

Major Winners and Highlights

Rema emerged as a standout artist of the night, clinching the coveted Album of the Year for his project HeIs. His innovative sound and global appeal have solidified his position as a leading figure in Afrobeats.

Tems continued her meteoric rise, winning Best Recording of the Year for her soulful track “Burning.” Her unique voice and emotive performances have resonated with audiences worldwide.

Davido was honored as the Digital Artiste of the Year, recognizing his massive online presence and influence in the digital music space.

The Next Rated award, highlighting promising new talent, was awarded to Odumodublvck, signaling a bright future for the rapper in the Nigerian music scene.

In a poignant moment, the late Mohbad received a posthumous award for Best Street-Hop Artiste for his song “Ask About Me.” His wife and son accepted the award, bringing an emotional depth to the ceremony.

Diverse Categories and Recognitions

The Headies Awards showcased a wide array of categories, reflecting the diversity of Nigerian music. Flavour’s “Big Baller” won Afrobeats Single of the Year, while Liya’s “I’m Done” and Lojay’s “Billions” earned them Best Vocal Performance (Female) and Best Vocal Performance (Male), respectively.

Qing Madi was recognized as the Songwriter of the Year for “Vision,” and London took home Producer of the Year for his work on “Ozeba.” The Soundtrack of the Year award went to “Tribe Called Judah Soundtrack” by TCJ and Abbey Wonder, highlighting the intersection of music and film.

The ceremony featured electrifying performances from artists like Flavour, Shallipopi, Odumodublvck, Qing Madi, Ayo Maff, and KCEE, captivating the audience with their dynamic stage presence.
