APGA’s Chief Emmanuel “Emma” Nwachukwu Wins Anambra South Senatorial By-Election
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reclaimed its presence in the Nigerian Senate following the victory of Chief Emmanuel “Emma” Nwachukwu (Ọnọdugo) in the Anambra South Senatorial by-election held on August 16, 2025.
According to official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chief Nwachukwu secured a commanding 90,408 votes, far ahead of his opponents Azuka Okwuosa of the APC with 19,847 votes, and Donald Amangbo of the ADC who managed 2,889 votes.
For the people of Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area, this is a historic milestone. It is the first time the community has produced a senator for Anambra South since Nigeria’s return to democracy, highlighting Ukpor’s growing political significance and maturity.

The winning streak for APGA was not limited to the senatorial race. In the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election, the party’s candidate, Barrister Ifeoma Mimi Azikiwe, also emerged victorious. She polled 7,774 votes, defeating her closest challenger, Justina Azuka of the ADC, who scored 1,909 votes, while the APC and YPP candidates trailed further behind.
This double victory reinforces APGA’s deep grassroots presence and its continued relevance in Anambra politics.
