Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, PhD, FCSN, FICCON, FCAI, JP, is a trailblazing scholar and academic leader whose contributions to science and education have had a profound impact on both national and global scales. Currently serving as the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, Nigeria, Dr. Awuzie has spent over two decades shaping the future of education and research, particularly in the field of Physical and Materials Chemistry.
Born on July 20, 1973, in Enugu, Dr. Awuzie hails from Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Her academic journey began with a strong foundation in Chemistry and Biochemistry, having earned a B.Sc. in Science Technology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, followed by an M.Tech in Production Technology. She later achieved a PhD from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli, where her passion for scientific research and academic leadership flourished.
A true pioneer in her field, Dr. Awuzie’s expertise spans Physical and Materials Chemistry, with an impressive portfolio of over 28 journal articles, 34 conference papers, and 11 authored books. Her scholarly work has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Best Paper Presenter Award at the International Conference on Science, Technology, and Management in Oxford, UK, in 2015.
As a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI), Dr. Awuzie is widely recognized for her outstanding contributions to chemistry and related fields. Her research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including cement production, water sustainability, and cooperative instructional strategies in chemistry education. She has also represented Nigeria at numerous international conferences in the UK, USA, India, Canada, Thailand, and Cameroon, further establishing her global reputation as a leading scientist.
Dr. Awuzie’s dedication to education is evident through her influential role in academic leadership, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary research. Prior to becoming the Rector, she served as a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology at Federal Polytechnic Oko, where she mentored students and facilitated groundbreaking research.
