THE BIAFRAN REMEMBRANCE DAY SONG BY PROFESSOR ONYE EGWU, TITLE OZOEMENA/ECHEZONA
On the 30th of May, 2024, the Biafrans all over the world observed a sit-at-home to remember and respect the sacrifice and bravery of the millions of Biafrans who fought for freedom but were massacred and killed by the Nigerian soldiers.
In remembrance of the fallen heroes of Biafra, Professor Onye Egwu, the King of Highlife releases and dedicated a very soulful song titled Ozoemena/Echezona to all the fallen heroes of Biafra on the 30th of May,2024. “OZOEMENA” means “Never shall it happen again”, while “ECHEZONA” literally means “Do not forget”.
In a captivating and heartfelt way, the Nigerian based Highlife musician, Professor Onye Egwu narrated the sour ordeals of the people of Biafra in the hands of the Nigerian Soldiers. The oppression on biafrans, the blockade and starvation, the bombings, the constant killings and displacement, the refusal to grant the Eastern region their freedom since the other tribes was becoming so unaccommodating etc.
In an emotional yet inspiring way, the song also drove home messages of unity and oneness among the biafrans, while hailing the undaunting and illustrious spirit of the Igbo Man that has gradually helped him to pick himself back up from nothing after the war.

Professor Onye Egwu is a Nigerian musician who is reliving the popular Igbo highlife music genre. In the early days of his musical career, due to his doggedness and dedication to his talent, Professor Onye Egwu was crowned the King of Highlife,2022 at the Highlife Music Fest hosted by Life Continental Larger Beer.
