Gov. Alex Otti Announces Monthly Stipends for NYSC Corps Members in Abia
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to begin the payment of monthly stipends to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in government-owned institutions across the state.

Governor Otti made the disclosure during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch “B” Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
According to him, the stipend will serve as additional support to corps members, who currently rely mainly on the federal government’s ₦77,000 monthly allowance. The governor said the exact amount would be determined in line with prevailing economic realities.

He further assured that his administration would address critical challenges facing the NYSC in the state, including the poor condition of the Umunna orientation camp. Plans are underway to renovate the camp, provide perimeter fencing, office accommodation, and other essential facilities.
Governor Otti noted that Abia had been among the states yet to provide extra allowances for corps members, but stressed that his government was determined to change that.
“We acknowledge the contributions of corps members to the growth of Abia State. This support will ensure that their welfare is improved, and they can deliver even more in their various places of primary assignment,” he said.
The announcement has been welcomed as a positive step towards improving corps members’ welfare in the state, and is expected to boost morale among young graduates posted to Abia.
