In addition to the awards, Soludo received a certificate of special recognition and commendation from the House of Representatives of the U.S. State of South Carolina. The commendation celebrated his distinguished career as a professor of economics, an economic adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and now as the Governor of Anambra. The certificate also noted his vital role in elevating Nigeria’s financial standing to become one of the strongest economies in Africa.
The occasion was attended by an impressive list of dignitaries and leaders from different parts of the world. Former President of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Kikwete; Prime Minister Philip Davis of The Bahamas; President Sylvanie Burton of Dominica; former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar; Prime Minister Dr. Judith Suminwa Tuluka of the Democratic Republic of Congo; African Development Bank Secretary-General, Professor Vincent O. Nmehielle; and the Governor of Zamfara State were among the guests who witnessed the ceremony. Their presence added colour to the event and underscored the international importance of the gathering.
Governor Soludo also featured as a keynote speaker at the Power Forum and the International Forum on Africa-Caribbean Leadership. He delivered a lecture on the topic “Africa Unleashed: Navigating the Disruptions, Enhancing Opportunities, the Anambra State Example.” In his address, he spoke about the challenges and opportunities facing Africa in the modern global economy. He shared how Anambra State is navigating these challenges by embracing reforms, focusing on innovation, and investing in people and infrastructure. His presentation drew attention to the practical steps being taken in Anambra to create a model of development that other regions can learn from.
The honours given to Soludo in New York are a recognition not only of his personal career but also of the progress happening in Anambra State. Since assuming office, he has been known for his focus on urban renewal, economic reforms, and policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary people. These efforts have already earned him recognition in Nigeria, such as Governor of the Year awards from Independent Newspaper, Vanguard, and The Sun. The international awards and commendation now show that the global community is also taking notice of his contributions.
For Anambra State, the recognition comes at a time when the government is seeking greater international partnerships and investment. The presence of Soludo on a global platform, alongside presidents, prime ministers, and top international figures, sends a message that Anambra is ready to play an important role beyond Nigeria. It also reflects the growing confidence in African leaders who are committed to reforms and inclusive growth.
The event in New York will be remembered not just as a personal achievement for Governor Soludo, but also as a moment that highlighted Anambra State on the international stage. With these triple honours, Soludo has joined the ranks of African leaders whose work is shaping conversations about governance, development, and progress. It is a reminder that dedicated leadership can bring global respect, and that the story of a state in Nigeria can inspire discussions in the halls of global power.
