JAMB Addresses Technical Glitch Affecting 2025 UTME Candidates — Rewrite Date Announced
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially acknowledged a technical glitch that disrupted the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 157 of its Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers across the country.
In a tweet shared on May 13, JAMB stated:
“Man proposes, God disposes! It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME.”
This disruption has impacted several candidates, particularly those in Lagos and five southeastern states. According to JAMB, the issue was unforeseen and beyond their control. However, it has understandably raised questions among Nigerians. How could such a significant technological failure occur in a national exam of this magnitude? While JAMB insists it acted promptly and transparently, the incident highlights the need for improved infrastructure and contingency planning in future UTME exercises.
In the wake of the glitch, JAMB has announced that affected candidates will be given another opportunity to take the exam. The rescheduled UTME for these candidates is set to hold on Saturday, May 18, 2025.
Candidates are advised to check the JAMB website or their email and SMS notifications for details about their new exam date, venue, and time.
While it’s commendable that the board has taken responsibility and moved to resolve the issue, it is also important that steps are taken to ensure that such technical interruptions do not reoccur, especially in a process that is critical to the academic future of thousands of Nigerian youths.
