WAEC 2025 Results Released: 76.2% Pass Rate, Over 262,000 Results Withheld
2025 WAEC Results Released: Over 1.8 Million Candidates Sat, But Performance Declines Slightly

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates with a noticeable decline in overall performance compared to last year.

Announcing the results on Monday, August 4, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, stated that 1,884,341 candidates sat for the examination held between April 30 and June 24, 2025.
Of these, only 76.2% obtained five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics, marking a drop from the 79.81% recorded in 2024.
“The slight decline may be attributed to multiple factors including disruptions in the academic calendar and inadequate preparation in certain regions,” Dr. Dangut explained.
Despite the dip, the exam body noted improvements in subject-specific performance across some Science and Arts subjects, with notable candidates recorded from eight different states.
However, they also disclosed that the results of over 262,000 candidates are currently being withheld due to reported cases of examination malpractice. These cases are under investigation.
