Nnewi,The Medical Hub Of Anambra State And Igboland

When Ndi Nnewi strived to get approval for building Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in their home town in the early 90s,everyone knew it was a move that will attract more developments and even more health related investments into Nnewi.On the approval of the project, Ndị Nnewi quickly started erecting buildings at the site of the proposed Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi so that i would start functioning as soon as possible.

Few years after the hospital became functional,it was already among the busiest hospitals in South East.The demand increased which necessitated that the hospital be taken to a more spacious ,serene and organized location .The idea of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital permanent site came.After so many meetings,a site was found in Akammili Umudim, Nnewi and was approved for the permanent site.For one reason or the other,work delayed at the permanent site ,while the old and existing one kept getting choked and overwhelmed by demand.

As everyone was waiting for the permanent site to get ready,so many hospitals started springing up,both specialist hospitals,maternities ,etc.

Today,the permanent site of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital,Nnewi is functional,even as the old site is still working,but the burden on it has been reduced.

Added to old and new sites of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital,other outstanding hospitals that together made Nnewi worth being called the Medical hub of South East(Igboland) include;

1.Accu Care Foundation Hospital,Nnewi:This hospital has state of the art equipments and also attend to several health issues.They also have a world class diagnostic centre named Accunalysis which is located right opposite the main hospital.The hospital has qualified Doctors with a very serene environment too.

2.Life Specialist Hospital,Nnewi:This hospital has been existing for a long time now.They are experts in anything that has to do with pregnancy.Their expertise in carrying out In-vitro fertilization (IVF) is second to none.They attend to other health issues too.Life specialist hospital is located at No.7 Ikemba drive Umuele Umudim,Nnewi .

3.Premium Kidney Hospital,Nnewi:This is among the latest health investments in Nnewi.Just like its name,the hospital is specifically for kidney issues.At the moment,they run dialysis and are getting ready to start performing kidney transplant .It is really an investment that’s worth it as Anambra,South East and even Nigeria have been lacking such facilities, especially in this period increasing kidney problems.The hospital is located at Old Onitsha road in Edoji Uruagu, Nnewi

4.Dame Irene Memorial Hospital, Oraifite:This hospital is one of the best in Nigeria.It is located in Oraifite,a suburb of Nnewi.On the opening of this hospital this year,they performed free open heart surgeries on about ten patients,sponsored by Sir Emeka Okwuosa foundation .Later again in November 2022,they performed almost fifty successful free open heart surgeries again .Most of the people who work in this hospital are expatriates .
