Nonye Soludo and Senator Uche Ekwunife Clash Over Allegations, DNA Challenge
Anambra First Lady, Nonye Soludo, and Senator Uche Ekwunife in Public Dispute Over Allegations
The political space in Anambra State has been heated in recent days as the First Lady, Dr. Nonye Soludo, clashed with Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over what she described as “malicious allegations” directed at her family.

In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, Nonye Soludo condemned claims allegedly made by Ekwunife and warned that she would not allow her reputation or that of her family to be dragged into political mudslinging. She gave the senator 72 hours to withdraw the comments and tender a public apology or risk legal action.
The First Lady also went further by issuing a dramatic challenge. She called on Senator Ekwunife to take a public oath of fidelity and chastity in any Catholic cathedral in Anambra State, in front of the Blessed Sacrament. According to her, such an oath would put to rest insinuations about her personal life.
She emphasized three points in her statement: “One, I have never worked for anyone in my life. I have been a professional and an entrepreneur all my adult life. Two, I never met Dr. Mbadinuju of blessed memory in my life. Three, in my 55 years on planet earth, I have known only one man, Chukwuma Soludo.”
Pushing the matter further, Mrs. Soludo proposed DNA tests in London, offering to cover all expenses for both families. She stated that if the results confirmed Senator Ekwunife’s husband as the father of all her children, she would not only accept it but also give her a cash award. She said her own family was fully prepared for such a test at any time.
Ekwunife, however, dismissed the First Lady’s challenge, describing her own remarks as nothing more than “friendly advice.” In her response, she stressed that Mrs. Soludo owed her no explanation and that if any clarification was necessary, it should be made to her husband, Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
“Challenging me to respond or undergo tests does not involve me, as I am not part of her family affairs. She should focus on addressing any concerns with her husband,” Ekwunife said.
The senator further noted that her commitment to rescuing Anambra State from what she described as misrule remained firm and would not be derailed by personal disputes.
The development has drawn wide attention online, sparking debates on whether political contests in the state are shifting too far into personal and family matters. While some observers see the First Lady’s move as a strong defense of her family’s integrity, others argue that such personal battles may distract from the larger issues affecting governance and the lives of ordinary citizens.
