President Tinubu Hosts Super Falcons After Historic WAFCON 2025 Victory
President Tinubu honours Super Falcons, Nigeria’s victorious women’s football team with national awards, cash rewards, and housing for their outstanding performance at WAFCON 2025.
Following the super falcons thrilling 3–2 comeback victory over host nation Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Nigeria’s Super Falcons were formally received at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Moved by their display of courage, discipline, and national pride, President Tinubu hosted the team on Monday, July 29, 2025, to honour their outstanding achievement, clinching Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, a feat unmatched on the continent.

During the colourful ceremony at Aso Rock, President Tinubu commended the Falcons for their resilience, especially after going down 2–0 in the first half of the final match, only to rise again and defeat the hosts with three brilliant second-half goals.
The symbolic highlight of the event was the presentation of the WAFCON trophy to the President. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who were both instrumental in the tournament, led the delegation to present the trophy to President Tinubu.

In appreciation of their dedication and success, the President announced a comprehensive reward package for the team:
- Each of the 24 players was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
- The players were also awarded a three-bedroom flat under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
- Each player received a cash reward of $100,000 (over ₦150 million).
- Members of the technical crew were each awarded $50,000.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Chief of Staff Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and representatives of the Ministry of Sports and the Nigerian Football Federation.

Notably, the team had earlier arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where they were given a hero’s welcome complete with cultural dances, cheers from fans, and a ceremonial water salute on the runway.
The celebration of the Super Falcons also saw the Nigerian Governors’ Forum pledge an additional ₦10 million to each player, further underscoring the magnitude of their achievement and the pride they have brought to the nation.
President Tinubu, speaking during the event, said “Your victory is not just a sporting achievement, it is a demonstration of the Nigerian spiri, bold, resilient, and triumphant. You have inspired millions and reminded us that with unity and courage, anything is possible.”
The hosting of the Super Falcons serves as a strong reminder that excellence does not go unnoticed in Nigeria. It reflects the government’s growing recognition of the role of women in sports and the impact of football as a unifying force in the country.
Indeed, it is uplifting to witness a team that has not only made history but has also brought the nation together showing once again that Nigeria’s daughters are just as powerful as her sons.
