Progress Report on the Nnewi-Nnobi Dual Carriageway
The Nnewi-Nnobi Dual Carriageway is quickly becoming one of the most impactful road projects in Anambra State. It’s already transforming how people move and do business between Nnewi and Nnobi. Designed to reduce traffic, connect communities more easily, and open up more opportunities for local businesses, this road project has made noticeable progress in the past few months.
The project, awarded by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, is part of his administration’s efforts to transform Anambra’s road network. Recently, construction workers have poured and leveled a layer of gravel or crushed stones on major parts of the road. This is a key step known as the stone base, it comes just before tarring and helps the road last longer by giving it a strong foundation.
The drainage work, which started early in the project, looks finished. Concrete gutters and culverts have been put in place along most parts of the road to help control rainwater and stop future damage.
When the road expansion began, several electric poles were removed to make way for the new lanes. However, it’s still unclear if those poles have been replaced or if work on that part is done. The same goes for streetlights and other installations, we’re still waiting to see how and when those will be added.
One confirmed improvement is the inclusion of walkways alongside the road. These will make the route safer for pedestrians and help connect neighborhoods more smoothly.
Of course, the construction hasn’t come without challenges. Some shops and buildings along the old road had to be demolished. While this was difficult for many, some business owners have already relocated or started rebuilding along the wider road.
On the bright side, the project has created jobs for many local people, from construction workers to food vendors. And already, people are saying the road feels easier to drive through, even before it’s fully done.
A resident shared, “For years, we hoped this road would be fixed. Now, seeing real progress makes us believe better days are truly ahead.”
The next big step is the actual tarring of the road, which could begin soon now that the gravel layer is in place. After that, we expect to see road markings, lights, and final touches that will make this road fully ready for use.
In all, the Nnewi-Nnobi Dual Carriageway is not just a construction project, it’s a symbol of growth and progress for the people who live and work in this area. As it nears completion, there’s a real sense of excitement in the air.
