WAEC 2025: WAEC Fixes Result Glitch, Pass Rate Soars from 38% to Nearly 63%

WAEC 2025: After correcting a grading error, WAEC restores the WASSCE portal and urges students to recheck their scores immediately.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has restored access to its result-checker portal following the resolution of a technical issue that initially disrupted the 2025 WASSCE results. Candidates are now advised to revisit the portal to check their corrected scores.

An internal review revealed that the error occurred during post-release processing of serialized exam papers in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. A wrongly assigned code file affected the grading of the English Language Objective Test, leading to significantly underreported performance.

Corrected Pass Rate Revealed

In a press briefing at WAEC’s Lagos headquarters on Friday, August 8, 2025, the Head of WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, delivered the updated figures:

1,239,884 candidates, or approximately 62.96%, obtained credit passes in five subjects including English and Mathematics, a massive improvement from the initially reported 38.32%.

Among the successful candidates, 53.05% were female, and 46.95% were male.

Despite the correction, the pass rate remains lower than the 72.12% achieved in 2024.

Remaining Withheld Results

WAEC clarified that 191,053 candidates, about 9.7% still have their results withheld due to ongoing investigations into suspected exam malpractice, including cheating and collusion. These cases are being meticulously reviewed, and affected candidates will be notified of outcomes in due course.
