It was all a movie in Nnewi, as the city was on shutdown in celebration of the year 2022 edition of Edo Nnewi New Yam Festival which held on Sunday, the 7th of August.

Who Is Edo Nnewi?

Edo is the supreme Deity of Anaedo. Anaedo comprises of three towns Namely Nnewi, Ichi and Oraifite.

New Yam Festival is an annual event in Igbo culture. It is a festival that celebrates a successful farming season. Edo deity celebrates her new yam festival every August, usually in the first week.

The 2022 edition of Edo Nnewi New Yam festival was mind-blowing. People from different parts of Igboland and even beyond turned up in their thousands to pay homage to the dirty, celebrate with her, present gifts to her and make good wishes in her presence.

Edo Nnewi is known as the mother of wealth, and it’s very evident in the level of prosperity among the people  of Nnewi and Anaedo people.

This Diety blesses not just Nnewi and Anaedo people, but everyone who lives in Nnewi and Anaedo, loves the land and works hards in whatever he or she does.

That is why the people do not take this festival for granted .

Different kinds of Igbo masquerades were present during the festival, and they contributed in making the event very colourful

The great Ajọfia Nnewi masquerade and Ijele the great,giant and colourful Igbo masquerade were all in attendance .

It was indeed a remarkable and fun-filled day in the land of Nnewi and Anaedo
