Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh || The Igbo Man Behind Computer Manufacturing in Nigeria
When the story of Nigeria’s digital revolution is told, one name stands tall—Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh, the brilliant Igbo entrepreneur who pioneered computer manufacturing in Nigeria. As the founder and Chairman of Zinox Technologies, Dr. Ekeh has not only built a legacy of innovation but has also positioned Nigeria on the global map as a hub for indigenous tech solutions.
His Early Life and Education
Born on February 22, 1956, in Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Dr. Ekeh is a proud son of the Igbo land. His passion for excellence and innovation was evident early in life. He earned his first degree in Economics from Punjab University in India, followed by a postgraduate degree in Risk Management from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
This strong academic background, combined with global exposure, laid the foundation for what would become one of the most impactful tech careers in Africa.
Zinox Technologies: Pioneering Computer Manufacturing in Nigeria
In 2001, Dr. Ekeh launched Zinox Technologies Limited, making history as the first Nigerian company to manufacture computers with international certifications. Zinox became the first ICT brand in Sub-Saharan Africa to receive the Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification from Microsoft and later earned the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certification.
This groundbreaking achievement not only disrupted Nigeria’s tech industry but also created local employment, promoted technology transfer, and reduced reliance on imported computer systems.
Zinox Technologies became a trusted ICT solutions provider across Africa. The company played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic processes by developing and deploying systems for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Zinox supplied electronic voter registration systems and Smart Card Readers, used to conduct free, fair, and credible elections, first in Nigeria and later in The Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.
Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh’s impact goes beyond computer production. In 2018, his company acquired Konga.com, one of Nigeria’s largest e-commerce platforms. This strategic move merged tech manufacturing with digital retail, creating a vertically integrated digital business ecosystem managed by Nigerians for Nigerians.
Through these initiatives, Dr. Ekeh has proven that Igbo entrepreneurship and innovation can lead Nigeria into a globally competitive digital economy.
Philanthropy and Youth Empowerment
As a true patriot, Dr. Ekeh established the Leo Stan Ekeh Foundation (LSEF), focused on empowering Nigerian youths through digital education, entrepreneurship training, scholarships, and community development. Thousands have benefited from his efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote homegrown talent in ICT.
For his contributions to nation-building and digital development, Dr. Ekeh has received several national and international honors, including the Nigerian national award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR). He is also celebrated as one of the top tech entrepreneurs in Africa, a thought leader in innovation, and a global ambassador for the Igbo spirit of enterprise.
Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh’s journey is not just a story of business success. It is the story of how an Igbo man from Imo State transformed Nigeria’s position in global technology. Through Zinox Technologies, he pioneered computer manufacturing in Nigeria, inspired a digital movement, and empowered the next generation of tech leaders.
