ANAMBRA BEACH SOCCER BOARD GETS STARTED: Bringing Good Stuff for Youth in Anambra State

Something big happened in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria on August 25th, 2023. They officially started the Anambra State Beach Soccer Association (ASBSA). This is like a big step to help young people and make everyone in the community proud.

After they did the official start, they talked to reporters. Professor Victor Madubuko, who is the boss of the group, said he’s helping because it’s a good idea. He thinks it will keep young folks busy and make Nnewi and Anambra State look good. When someone asked about the beach, he explained beach soccer can happen anywhere, not just at the sea. He said you can make a sandy area and play there, like they do in places with no real beaches, even in the North and other countries.

Another person, Mr. Chukwudi Orizu, who used to be important in Anambra State and is now in charge of the group too, talked about how special beach soccer is because it’s played on sand. He knows Nnewi doesn’t have real beaches, but they’re planning to build a special sand soccer place at Nnewi High School that will be really good

Someone asked how they’re working with the government, and Dr. Emmanuel Nsoedo, who helps with the group, explained it’s mainly a private effort. But they’re open to teaming up with others if it helps. He said they want to teach young people skills and help them do well in soccer from local to international levels. They also want to help the community by making money from this.

Prof. Madubuko added that sports are great for players and the community. He thinks players could make a lot of money and feel proud. Sports can also save lives and help young people do better things. Mr. Orizu said they’re looking for talented young folks in schools. If they’re good, they might even get scholarships for school.

In the end, this whole thing is about giving young people good chances and making the community better. Starting the beach soccer group is like opening a door to good things for the youth in Anambra State.
