Afịa-Ọlụ Nnewi 2025: Comedy, Highlife & Big Weekend Events

The Afịa-Ọlụ Festival of Nnewi has always been more than just four days of cultural activities. While the official festival closed with the grand finale on the fourth day, the celebration of culture, music, and entertainment continued into the following weekend across various parts of the town. This year, Afịa-Ọlụ 2025 extended its energy into several after-events that showcased Nnewi’s fast-growing love for entertainment, creativity, and nightlife.

From the comedy stage at Anaedo Hall to the highlife groove at Trend Hotel, from live music at Tipsy Barrel to the unforgettable pool party that followed, the post-festival activities painted a beautiful picture of a town that knows how to honour tradition and still embrace modern entertainment.

Nnewi Go Laugh 5.0: Comedy Takes Centre Stage

On Sunday, 31st August 2025, laughter became the new yam in Nnewi as the much-anticipated Nnewi Go Laugh 5.0 stormed Anaedo Hall, Otolo Nnewi. The show, hosted by the ever-energetic Comic MC Jaghee, was a complete sellout, proving once again that Nnewi is a massive market for comedy and entertainment.

From the very beginning of the night, the atmosphere was electric. The hall was packed to the brim, with guests eager to enjoy a stress-free evening filled with humour and fun. Cheers, claps, and uncontrollable laughter filled the air as each performer took the stage.

The lineup was a rich blend of established acts and fresh homegrown talents. Albino Brothers, MC Monica, Professor Onye Egwu, Dibia Highway, MC Ceaser, Koolp, MC Eriwa, and many others delivered rib-cracking jokes that had the crowd rolling with laughter. Adding spice to the event, several Nnewi-based comedians and skit makers showcased their skills, making the evening not just about entertainment but also about celebrating local talent.

Support from the community also added to the magic of the night. Barrister Tino Chinedu Leonard stole the spotlight when he donated ₦1 million instantly to support MC Jaghee in settling performers, while also promising that his organization will co-sponsor the next edition of the event. Similarly, the CEO of MING gave massive financial support running into millions, confirming the growing love for entertainment in Nnewi. Even the presence of comedy personalities like MC Sundown Eriwa added colour and weight to the night.

For five years now, Comic MC Jaghee has stayed true to his dream of building a homegrown entertainment brand. Nnewi Go Laugh is no longer “just another comedy show.” It has become a cultural calendar event , a reminder that Afịa-Ọlụ doesn’t only end with culture and yam but continues with laughter and unity.

Egwu Ọnwa Afịa-Ọlụ 2025 at The Nnewi Hotel

On Saturday, 30th August 2025, The Nnewi Hotel & Events Centre hosted one of the most anticipated music nights of the Afịa-Ọlụ after-events — the Egwu Ọnwa – Afịa-Ọlụ 2025.

This event was a high-energy music showcase featuring heavyweights such as Queen Theresa Onuorah, King Kassy, Demaskcid, Airdew, Zusky, Ice Nwanee, and DJ Maxi. Queen Theresa Onuorah, often referred to as the “Queen of Egedege,” brought her signature traditional sound that thrilled the audience, reminding everyone of the deep ties between music and culture in Igbo celebrations.

The mix of traditional highlife, afrobeat, and modern music kept the crowd on their feet all night, blending old and new in a perfect cultural harmony. For many attendees, Egwu Ọnwa was a way of transitioning from the solemnity of Afịa-Ọlụ’s traditional activities into the vibrancy of contemporary entertainment.

Tipsy Barrel’s Afịa-Ọlụ Big Weekend Experience

Still on the same weekend, Tipsy Barrel brought a modern and youthful spin to the Afịa-Ọlụ celebrations with its Afịa-Ọlụ Big Weekend Experience.

  • On Saturday, 30th August, the soulful Martin Anigbogu performed live, delivering heartfelt music that resonated with lovers of good sound.
  • On Sunday, 31st August, the vibe switched into full party mode with performances from Funny Bone and Onyeze, keeping the crowd engaged and energetic.

But the real highlight came when the Almighty Ajofia Nnewi Masquerade made an appearance. Ajofia, known for its powerful symbolism in Nnewi culture, brought an authentic traditional flavour into the modern setting of Tipsy Barrel. Guests described the moment as surreal, watching a revered masquerade mix into an event headlined by live performers.

Afịa-Ọlụ Nnewi Highlife Groove 2025 at Trend Hotel & Suites

On Sunday, 31st August, Trend Hotel & Suites, Umudimkwa, Umudim Nnewi, hosted the Afịa-Ọlụ Nnewi Highlife Groove 2025.

The event was a rich celebration of highlife music, led by the charismatic Okija Amaka and other top performers who brought the golden sound of Igbo highlife to life. Highlife music has always been a heartbeat of celebrations in southeastern Nigeria, and the show gave the Afịa-Ọlụ season a melodious climax.

Guests enjoyed live instrumentals, call-and-response songs, and rhythms that carried the spirit of Igbo heritage. For many, it was a chance to relax after the rush of the festival while still staying deeply connected to the cultural essence of Afịa-Ọlụ.

Wild Out Pool Party: The Perfect Closing Splash

Just when people thought the celebrations were over, Trend Hotel & Suites kept the party alive with the Wild Out Pool Party on Monday, 1st September 2025.

The poolside event provided the perfect way to cool off after weeks of intense cultural activities and entertainment. With DJs spinning live music, guests swimming, dancing, and networking, the atmosphere was both vibrant and refreshing. The pool party showed that Afịa-Ọlụ is not just about looking back at tradition — it’s also about embracing the energy of the present and the promise of the future.

A Festival that Extends Beyond Four Days

Afịa-Ọlụ Nnewi 2025 has proven that the festival doesn’t end with the cutting of the new yam or the grand finale parade. The after-events — comedy shows, live music nights, masquerade appearances, highlife grooving, and even pool parties all confirm one thing:

Nnewi has found a balance between celebrating its cultural heritage and creating modern entertainment experiences that rival any city in Nigeria.

The sold-out halls, vibrant performances, strong community support, and enthusiastic crowds are a testament to the fact that Afịa-Ọlụ is more than a festival, it’s a season of culture, unity, fun, and pride for Ndi Nnewi.

With Afịa-Ọlụ 2025 officially wrapped up, attention is already turning to next year. If the energy of this year is anything to go by, Afịa-Ọlụ Nnewi 2026 will be even bigger, brighter, and bolder.
