Chief Chidi Obed Anyaegbu (MFR): The Man Behind Chisco Group

Chief Dr. Chidi Obed Anyaegbu is a successful businessman, industrialist, and philanthropist from Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria. He is the founder and chairman of Chisco Group, a large company known for transportation, logistics, courier services, oil and gas, hospitality, real estate, and aviation.

Born on September 13, 1956, Chief Anyaegbu started his business journey in 1975 by selling spare parts in Lagos. With determination and hard work, he grew from a small trader into the owner of one of the biggest transport companies in West Africa. In 1981, he started Chisco Transport with just one bus. Today, the company operates hundreds of buses across Nigeria and West Africa, including countries like Ghana, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Chief Anyaegbu believes in giving back to the community. He has used his wealth and influence to help his people, especially in his hometown, Amichi. He built roads, donated a modern hospital (Pat-Angelina Hospital), and constructed a multipurpose civic center. He also helped build a church and supported many families with food, education, and health care.

To promote education, he established the Chisco Institute of Transportation Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. This institute trains young Nigerians in transport and logistics to prepare them for jobs and business in the industry. He also launched the Diamond City Estate project in Amichi to encourage Igbo people to invest in their hometowns.

Chief Chidi Anyaegbu has received many awards and honors. He was given the national award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for his service to Nigeria. His community honored him with the traditional title “Okeiyi Amichi.” In 2024, he was crowned “Mayor Ndi Igbo” by the Igbo business community for his work in promoting Igbo unity, business, and development. He is also the National Life Patron of the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide.

Even with all his success, Chief Anyaegbu remains humble and focused. He continues to invest in people, create jobs, and support the development of Igbo land. His company, Chisco Group, now includes courier services like CTN Express, oil and gas distribution, real estate developments, and an airline named Havila Air.
