Tunde Folayiwo, The Billionaire Behind the Yinka Folawiyo Group
Tunde Folawiyo is one of Nigeria’s most respected businessmen. Born in 1960, he is the son of the late Alhaji Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo, the founder of the Yinka Folawiyo Group, a powerful business conglomerate based in Lagos. Today, Tunde leads this multi-billion naira empire and has continued to grow it with class, strategy, and quiet confidence.
The Yinka Folawiyo Group operates in many sectors including oil and gas, shipping, real estate, agriculture, and trading. Under Tunde Folawiyo’s leadership, the group has expanded, especially in the energy sector. One of its most prominent companies, Folawiyo Energy Limited, manages a large petroleum storage facility at the Apapa Bulk Terminal in Lagos. This facility plays a vital role in Nigeria’s oil supply and distribution.
Tunde studied law at the London School of Economics (LSE) and obtained a Master’s degree from the University of London. Although trained as a lawyer, he chose the path of business, following in his father’s footsteps. His education gave him the global perspective and legal knowledge that he uses to manage complex business dealings.
Beyond business, Tunde Folawiyo is also known for his global involvement. He once served as the Honorary Consul of Barbados in Nigeria and has been part of several business and economic councils. He has also served on the board of major companies like MTN Nigeria, showing his strong influence in corporate Nigeria.
Even with all his success, Tunde lives a quiet and humble life. He avoids media attention and rarely appears in public events, preferring to let his work speak for him. Despite this, his impact is felt both in business and in society.
Tunde is also a philanthropist. Through his family’s foundation, he supports education, youth development, and community growth in Nigeria. He believes in helping young people find opportunities and build a better future.
Today, Tunde Folawiyo is considered one of the wealthiest men from Western Nigeria. He represents the modern Yoruba businessman—educated, calm, forward-thinking, and deeply committed to long-term success. Though he may not be as flashy as others, his wealth, vision, and steady growth make him one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s business world.
